Salinity Forum - Needilup Pavillion

NSPNR, in collaboration with FBG, Gillamii, and DPIRD, are bringing the specialists to you, to allow you the opportunity to sit down and plan salinity management works on your own property, under their guidance.

Come along on Friday 25 March to the Needilup Pavillion. 8:30am - 4:30pm, followed by a sundowner.

Please register before 21 March 2022. Register at https://fbg.org.au/salinityforum

Please bring along printed maps and photos/videos of the salt affected areas on your farm that you’d like advice on. Coming armed with as much knowledge as possible around the land use (current and historical), geology, soil types, topography, and drainage of the sites in question will also be helpful. The more detail, the better!

Following a morning of presentations from various salinity experts, you’ll break off into small groups to receive tailored advice on your own salinity issues. During the planning session, you’ll be free to seek recommendations from all the available specialists, and will be encouraged to work through the provided proformas and mapping exercises (personalised for your own property), to help you hone your ideas for the sites in question. You’ll have access to Decipher (biomass) maps, mapped salinity data, and plenty of other resources to assist with this.

The morning session of our event is supported by funding through South Coast NRM, and the Australian Government’s National Landcare Program. The afternoon portion of our event is supported by funding through the Western Australian Government’s State NRM program. The sundowner is generously sponsored by The Pub Borden.

Gnowangerup to challenge Jerramungup fox tally

Foxes in the Great Southern are the target of a challenge between Gnowangerup and Jerramungup landholders.

North Stirlings Pallinup Natural Resources (NSPNR) and Yongergnow- Ongerup CRC will hold the 2022 Fox Shoot on Friday 25th February from 5pm. Tally at the Ongerup Tip or Gnowangerup Tip at 6am Saturday. Participants are invited from Shire of Gnowangerup, Broomehill East, Gnowellen and beyond.

NSPNR has made a friendly challenge to Fitzgerald Biosphere Group (FBG) who will hold their Fitzy Fox Shoot on the same night.

Last year, FBG with 14 teams culled 190 foxes, four cats and 186 rabbits from within the Jerramungup Shire. The NSPNR tally with five teams was 112 foxes, two cats and 20 rabbits in the Gnowangerup Shire and Gnowellen. They are determined to chase FBG's tally in 2022.

Coordinating the culling of pest animals across the shires of Gnowangerup and Jerramungup will increase the impact on populations of foxes, feral cats and rabbits.

The fox shoot is registered for the Red Card program, through which Sporting Shooters Association of Australia WA is donating $5 for every cat and fox culled (to a capped amount) to the Regional Men's Health Initiative.

The NSPNR / Ongerup CRC fox shoot is possible thanks to our sponsors WAMMCO, South Coast Natural Resource Management, the Australian Government's National Landcare Program, Bush Heritage Australia, Summit Fertilizers, Rays Firearms and Archery, Elders, Gnowangerup Hardware, Ongerup Farm Supplies, Farmers Centre 1978 Albany, Animal Control Technologies (Aust.), and Shire of Gnowangerup.
